Kemp [LoadMaster] is used as our load balancer for internet-facing web servers. It balances loads across all servers and also sends traffic based on the target URL. Their support has been extremely helpful with any issues we have faced so far and I have been able to solve all problems over a single call.
  • [It is] easy to set up virtual servers.
  • It is extremely stable and efficient.
  • Support is readily available and helpful.
  • [The] renewal process can be better/automated.
Kemp [LoadMaster] is an affordable solution for enterprise needs and can handle a large volume of sessions. Deployment is easy and stable and if any help is needed, support is extremely helpful and friendly. I have not had any issues with this product or after [purchase] so far.

Kemp LoadMaster is being used as an on-premises load balancer and SSL termination. The product is easy to use in the browser interface. The API/CLI could use some more features to bring it on parity with the GUI. Overall it provides the needed features with ease of use and great support for our needs so far.
  • On-premises load balancing
  • SSL termination
  • Web GUI
  • API
  • CLI
Well suited for on-premises load balancer and SSL termination; less appropriate for cloud based tasks. WUI is functional but API/CLI is lacking. If API/CLI were more secure/robust, it would be easier to use.

We use Kemp LoadMaster to load-balance two mail servers. Kemp software manages the virtual IP that clients point to.
  • Simple, reliable, no frills load-balancer.
  • Easy to set up and use.
  • Great technical support.
  • Menu choices could be a little less confusing.
  • I cannot think of anything I dislike about the product.
  • I haven't encountered any weaknesses.
[Kemp LoadMaster] is a simple, reliable, no-frills load balancer that does exactly what it's intended to do. It manages virtual IPs and allows working on the passive node without any downtime. Additionally, it is perfectly suited for any application that requires high availability based on IP. Also, it doesn't require a hardware appliance, so it can be installed on a Windows Server VM.

Our Kemp LoadMasters are being used as a High Availability Active/Passive Clustered Pair to load balance all On-Premises inbound SMTP traffic and email access across multiple protocols (ActiveSync, Webmail, etc.).
It's used for the entire organization's email.
It addresses the business problems of:
1. Having a single point of failure for email ingress.
2. Providing a simple, robust load balancing and mail routing solution.
3. Guarantees performance as a dedicated load balancer separate from shared load balancer equipment used for other business segments like web and application.

-UPDATED APRIL 2021-
After successfully upgrading from LM2400s to X3s and greatly leveraging Kemp Support throughout the process, with unique unforeseen issues that arose, Kemp Support very aggressively deployed their Support Experts to walk us through the cutover on multiple attempts until we were successful.
  • Provisioning of Virtual Services to Real IP'ed internal systems.
  • Detailed logging facilitating rapid and easy Root Cause Analysis of issues.
  • Extensive Online community resources and excellent customer support for issues.
  • Simple, effective and intuitive UI design.
  • Effortless manual failover/failback and upgrading procedures.
  • Provided meticulously detailed upgrade-in-place documentation for transitioning to new hardware
  • Pursued Root Cause possibilities of unforeseen upgrade issue/misconfiguration scenarios
  • Ability to 'clone' existing Virtual Services for rapid deployment of similar ones.
  • A better API for ease of automation.
  • Simplification of Certificate management.
  • Better explanations of Kemp implementations of industry standard protocols like VRRP (or CARP)
  • More control over device factory reset configuration and forcibly breaking HA pairs at boot time
Very well suited for On-Premises MS Exchange environments where uptime/availability and performance are crucial. Environments where high volume email, including mass-mailings are needed. Companies with limited or generalist Infrastructure team members with fundamental knowledge of the protocols, that need to be able to quickly implement and leverage an enterprise-class mail load balancing/routing solution without needing hours of learning curve time or training to do so effectively.
-UPDATED APRIL 2021-
Well suited for Highly Available DNS (Windows/AD) provisioning, which we plan to use very soon in the future.

My company is using Kemp Loadmaster as load balancer for Exchange deployments, ADFS infrastructure and also for webserver farms with custom applications. Additionally, the reverse proxy feature with pre-authentication is used in some setups. We are a consulting/hosting company and have many customers using Kemp technology.
  • Ease of use - configuration is simple and there are templates for many use cases.
  • Support is awesome. If we ever ran into issues with more complex setups, we got quick help.
  • Value for money compared to competitors.
  • Integration into monitoring solutions is possible but could be more intuitive.
  • The web-based interface sometimes needs a manual refresh to show the actual status of services.
Kemp LoadMaster is an awesome product in load balancing or reverse proxy scenarios for Microsoft Exchange, but it can be used for other services too like ADFS, NPS, custom web applications, RDS farms, etc. The pre-authentication features also allow MFA to be used with products that don't offer a native functionality.
Kemp VLM, the virtual appliances, can be deployed and configured very quickly. I'd say, a Kemp VLM pair[ed] with HA for an Exchange deployment can be set up in 2 to 3 hours.
The Kemp LM is not supported as a reverse proxy for ADFS, although it could be used as such. But it can load balance Microsoft's Web Application Proxy instead, which is the native Federation Services proxy.

  • Great value for price ratio
  • Logging traffic statistics of virtual services
  • Dashboard and graphical posibilitys to statistic usage data

We are currently using the Kemp LoadMaster for internal enterprise wide applications and websites that require high availability. We wanted a product that can do the job effectively, is easy to configure and manage, can be setup as highly available, and yet does not come with a very high price tag. The Kemp LoadMaster met all those requirements.
  • templates for well known applications (Exchange, ADFS, etc.)
  • Easy configuration and management
  • Well priced
  • Virtual HA between different hypervisors (example Hyper-V and VMWare)
From our experience, we have used the Kemp LoadMasters successfully for Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft ADFS, public-facing websites, internal websites and web-based applications, SharePoint, etc. Kemp makes it easy for some of the well-known technologies by providing templates for them. By using these templates, there are not much more configuration that needs to be done, which is very nice. We have also used non-template web applications that worked really well on Kemp.

Kemp LoadMaster is being used to provide load balancing and continuous service to our web and API servers. This allows us to provide redundant services to public and internal users wither we are handling a disaster recovery or just doing simple upgrades for security patches or service packet to our infrastructure.
  • Easy to set up and maintain.
  • Easy to update, backup the firmware/software.
  • Little to no maintenance.
  • Responsive support that is willing to assist with more complex use cases.
  • Documentation/Knowledge base needs to be expanded upon.
Whether it is a large or small business, Kemp LoadMaster is well suited to use for load balancing of any web or email services where availability is crucial without having a huge learning curve.

The Kemp virtual LoadMaster is being used across the whole organization. The Kemp LoadMaster has addressed many problems and has helped us add more layers of security.
  • Excellent Customer Service.
  • Opportunity to demo before purchase.
  • Great pricing.
  • Easy to manage.
  • Templates to make configuration easier.
  • Need to have better way to organize the virtual services.
  • Easier way to customize login.
  • Work on their WAF intermittent issue.
Kemp LoadMaster has the ability to be suited for all business sizes. Their support team takes the time to walk you through it and help you understand why a rule did not work. When entering the virtual service, make sure it is properly documented with some sort of naming convention as it could be a long extensive list. I would question the manageability for a larger more complex infrastructure.

We use the Kemp LoadMaster with our on-premise Exchange 2016 using two services on a DAG at different locations.
The Kemp LoadMaster load balancer allows us to have a hands-off failover between servers, either in a Disaster Recovery model or during upgrades for security patches or service pack updates for the Exchange software.
  • Hands-off failover between systems.
  • Easy to use GUI.
  • No command line interface to learn.
  • Would like GEO function built on as add on.
  • To get more performance had to upgrade models, maybe a license based throttle.
  • Dual power supplies would be nice.
The Kemp LoadMaster load balancer is well suited for on-premise exchange system, either at one location or at two.
The Kemp is also suited to use for balancing web site traffic between system.
The Kemp work[s] well when use in with two or more units when in a multi-site environment.
I have not found a solution that the Kemp will not handle well.

Kemp LoadMaster is used in our server for load balancing. Our organization produce software for public sectors like Transport, Healthcare and Banking system. For continuous service and support we need to run our system with high availability and avoid the failures. Thus the Kemp load master helps us to give continuous service to reach and be accessed by our clients.
  • Good network management for command based operating system link Linux.
  • Managing and maintaining multiple servers in a single place.
  • IIS is the most common security system which can be achieved easily for multiple systems even for load balancing systems.
  • Most of the networking commands are designed with UI for closing port or opening a port which makes simple and clean.
  • Better UI can attract more customers.
  • Multiple SSL upload for single VIP can be added in future.
I recommended Kemp LoadMaster. It is the easiest server maintenance application which gives you high performance virtual Load Balancer and Reverse Proxy. It helps to enable the firewall to secure all servers with setting up virtual IPs. Good network management for command based operating system like Linux. Most of the networking commands are designed with UI which is an non technical can handle the application.

Our e-mail and mobile communication system which is based on Exchange Servers (DAG) needed load balancing and security. After a few discussions with resellers and external consultants we decided on Kemp. To this day we are very satisfied with the Kemp. In the future we would like to map further services via the Kemp.
  • Easy to install.
  • Easy to put in operation.
  • Flexible.
  • User interface needs an update.
  • Reporting would be a great feature.
  • Alerts.
For us and our e-mail and mobile communication system the load balancing and security feature are very suited. From the installation and configuration to the daily routine, the Kemp is great. Importing and defining the rules for the communication systems was quick and easy. After the configuration we found that we can still use the Kemp for more services.

Kemp is used as a reverse proxy server for our environment to protect real servers behind it. It is used by the entire city for web servers, secure transfer file servers, Exchange, etc. It addresses a security concern and provides another layer of protection as well as load balancing capability.
  • Tech support is quick to answer my calls. The support team is US based which is a big plus.
  • GUI is simple to use and I can walk my team members on how to accomplish simple tasks.
  • The unit has been very reliable so far.
  • More documentations on how to set applications up (e.g. Exchange, FTPs servers, etc).
Timely support is great when you need it as you will not have time to wait for a call back. Got on a call with someone within a few minutes and had a case opened. Took some time to restructure my environment to get my servers working following the recommendation of the support team.

We use it across the entire office, we use it to load balance our ADFS systems and our line of business.<br>This allows us to take servers up and down that are load balanced to do maintenance. This keeps us up and running at all times. <br>We also implemented a Kemp LB at our DR location, this allows us to test our DR plan and keep things up and running. It has saved down time, which alone is the best value.
  • Setup is super easy. They have templates you can import and all the settings are there minus the IP address of virtual service and the Server IP's needed.
  • Support, anytime we have a question we are able to talk to someone who knows the answer. We don't have to start at a low level support. This saves time to get this back up and running if we do have issues. Which are normally us trying to do something odd, which of course Kemp does with ease.
  • How quickly and easy it is to take a machine out of the virtual service. We are allows to do maintenance on a machine and keep our services up and running. Then we just click a button and machine is back up and connected.
  • Reporting, they have reporting but maybe could update the visuals they are kinda small and look out dated a bit.
  • Not a fan of how an account has to be unlocked in two different locations within the program. Took me a while to figure out why an account couldn't log in. Small issue.
  • There maybe a way, but not sure if possible, since we use a virtual LBl we would love to have a setting that doesn't reboot when ctrl alt del is hit on remote console, we have accidently rebooted LB on that page before. Granted it was back up and running in like 5 seconds.
Servers that share a load, ADFS, we also have App servers for our main line of business. This allows to take up and down servers at our pleasure. We can take server A down and leave Server B doing the work with a click of a button and vice versa when we need.

Currently being used to load balance our exchange servers and DAGs. We are [u]sing to Kemp devices to allow us to run updates on one Kemp at a time if needed. Having redundancy is a plus. We are also using the KEMP to limit services that we are using on Exchange, to limit external access.
  • Service Restrictions
  • Up Time
  • Support
  • Documentation of Fields(Tool Tips)
  • Knowledge Base
Well-suited for a larger exchange environment where there are multiple CAS\DAGs. If it's just one exchange server it will still do a good job if you have 2 Kemp devices, but it may not warrant the extra expense if it is a small environment. But if email is critical, then having Kemp is a must.

We use Kemp to improve the security and availability our web properties to external customers and partners, as well as a custom banquet application that is accessed over a cloud connection. The Kemp LoadMaster gives us load balancing/reverse proxy capabilities as well as a web application firewall to protect our web application environment and website. We use the technology across the entire organization to solve the issue of site performance and availability issues of our applications to external users when booking and managing events.
  • For a technical product, Kemp is fairly easy to use and performs as advertised without having to continuously log in to find out what's happening.
  • Kemp combines web security with load balancing in one package at a price point that worked well for our constrained budget.
  • Kemp's customer support and professional services are second-to-none, and much better than what we experienced with a previous product.
  • The Kemp user interface is a bit outdated, but it is still effective.
  • These products still require some knowledge of networking, and if you deploy as a virtual machine, you need to understand some aspects of VMware.
Kemp is great for organizations that feel they have been squeezed by traditional higher-priced load balancer vendors (F5). Kemp stood out from day 1 with a lot of flexibility in how you can deploy and purchase the products, and as a software product, they give you a seamless experience whether you deploy it in the cloud or in your existing networking closet/data center.

The Kemp LoadMaster is by our enterprise as our Load Balancer/Application Delivery Controller solution. We use it extensively to both manage application load and to obscure the back end devices. We initially used it to load balance simple websites and eventually started using some of the more advanced features to take into account environment performance and health in the delivery logic. Today we use it to deliver all kinds of applications: websites, SharePoint sites, DNS, LDAP, skype, SMTP, and various home grown applications. The Kemps solve our needs for load balancing, reverse proxy, and give us a wide variety of options for health checks in determining which servers are valid targets at the time.
  • Setting up new Virtual services is very intuitive.
  • Fail over between the VLMs is extremely responsive, they are the 1st devices to know when there is a network issue and it is seamless.
  • The individual VLMs are easy to manage, however kemp360 is only really useful for monitoring, not managing multiple VLMs.
The Kemps are a far easier Application Delivery Controller to setup and configure than an F5 and I have yet to see a case where it didn't do the job as well as an F5; there might be some edge cases but I have yet to see one. We replaced two different Reverse proxy solutions and the previous load balancer with the Kemps and have been very satisfied. Security was pleased with using them to get rid of direct NATs and force encryption across the board.

Our Kemp Loadmaster is utilized in a multi-domain environment and communicates with multiple VLANs to Load Balance traffic to servers in different DMZs. In situations where removing insecure Protocols, ciphers, and hashes from web servers cannot be done on the server itself, traffic is routed through the KEMP Loadmaster and weak Protocols, ciphers, and hashes are rejected at the Load Balancer.
  • Loadmasters run in Active-Standby. This allows me to upgrade the Standby member, fail-over to it, then upgrade the old primary member. 100% uptime.
  • I can route load balanced traffic to a single server in a pair and perform daytime updates/patches on servers without causing service interruption.
  • Security updates come out regularly, to keep up with CVEs.
  • LoadMaster is regex in its context rules, this allows for some very granular configurations to load balance traffic.
  • Can load balance traffic based on port numbers, allowing for non-http(s) to be load balanced.
  • Load balancing SFTP traffic is done poorly and requires the SFTP to have its default gateway set to the LoadMaster.
  • RADIUS authentication is the only allowed SSO and you must still manually configure each user on the LoadMaster.
  • configuration can be a little confusing when getting started. Had issues getting it to recognize SSL during setup, support informed me that SSL required "Super HTTP" setting.
Hiding web servers (even single web servers) behind it to reject weak security protocols. Forcing re-direction from HTTP to HTTPS. User community is very helpful, but there is a Kemp employee on the site that is very rude. SFTP Load Balancing still needs work.

Kemp LM was used to provide resilience for our Exchange web front end. It was purchased to ensure maximum available up time for remote users of our ion premise Exchange applications.

It is used world wide with around 2000 users, coping with a relatively small concurrency of some 400 users max.

  • Highly configurable. Complex set of options allow configuration to almost any configuration needed.
  • Very scaleable. Will cope with very large enterprises
  • Quite stable, but not perfect. High degree of availability, and improved over basic exchange installation
  • Complexity. You really need. highly skilled IT team to manage this device. This is not a solution or appliance for SME's - medium or large enterprises only!
  • Bugs, during 2015-2016 we suffered from a. number of bugs that caused downtime that would not have occurred without the Kemp LM. This is especially annoying given that it was purchased to reduce downtime! During 2017 stability improved.
  • Costs. This is a high cost solution with high ongoing support fees. Not for those who are very cost conscious
Large enterprises with a highly technical team, including high level networking skills will find this useful.
